“A service for hunters and gun enthusiasts, alike, the company will load the cremated ashes of lost loved ones into shotgun shells (oh, and rifle and pistol cartridges as well). Yes, you read that correctly. They will very literally fill shells and cartridges with the remains of perished family members and friends — if you so choose.” Check out the whole article:

Just when you thought you’d seen it all, they go and do something like this…..and totally redeem themselves! I myself think it is sick and cool all at the same time. If I were a gun enthusiast, I would probably consider something crazy along these lines. My husband and I both have business degrees. I focused on entrepreneurship so we are always coming up with innovative ideas that “might” work in the business world. The other day we came up with a great idea to present to retailers but stop short not having a clue of how to present it or who to go to for that matter.

This was on my Facebook this morning and thought it was funny so had to share. I just hope I am never in the line of fire…Pun intended.

I’ve been filling my own ink cartridges for years now. The money I save gives me the time I need to stay home and write or do homework. I print everything! That means I go through a lot of ink and a lot of paper. This isn’t full proof of course since many of the printing companies (Dell for example) do not allow refills in their printers. I get the printers that are cheap (40 bucks or less) and have refillable cartridges. It’s a messy process and I understand why most people steer clear of it, but I bet I save close to $300 a year doing this if not more. HP is the best for trying to find refillable. I order my ink off e-Bay for dirt cheap and they fill 4 or 5 times.

Another way to save money around the house is to visit thrift stores, garage sales and used furniture places. Since I don’t work, I have the time to go out and find these deals. This is actually my first project of repainting. I usually go with what I get and leave it. lol! Most of our home consists of hand-me-downs. At the same time, each has a story to tell. I sit here and look at the nice comfy chair by the front door. That thing came back with us when we went to Florida one year. It was 10 bucks at a yard sale down the street from my parents house. We bought a nice couch last week at the thrift store and it was in great shape!

This was another random deal I found at the thrift store. It was brand new with filter! I paid 5 bucks for it. We discussed getting a filter for the sink so this was definitely the cheaper route. There are so many ways to tuck that “publishing money” away. We make choices based on how bad we want something. Grocery shopping is also on my list of ways to save money. I buy mostly generic, stock up on sale items like meat, cereal and drinks, and stick with low-cost dinners that taste good. I don’t use coupons. They make me buy things I don’t need lol! I stick with one store – typically – unless it is just too good of a deal to pass up and worth the gas with all the running around. These ideas are only a few of the many ideas I use to live cheaper and enjoy more of what we want.

So what are your money-saving ideas? I’ll take what I can get;-)

Don’t get me wrong, I love to write, but my education is top priority. If I thought I could write for a living I wouldn’t. (Gotcha!) I enjoy writing and had enough years in college where I “had” to write on a specific topic. Writing is a hobby for me. However, I do take writing seriously and continue to improve on my skills in order to get my novel the way I want it before it becomes available to the public.

Many writers have different lives. What’s yours? One of mine is garage door installation and repair of all things. Well, I help my husband once in a while anyway and we enjoy the extra time together. He does the hard work. I just hand him tools now and then. Another path I am taking is Accounting. I have always enjoyed Math (not that it makes me any better at it lol). I love crunching numbers and that is how I came to the decision of becoming an Accountant. The money wasn’t my choice. I tried that when I first started college (a loooong time ago)…HA! Hey, I didn’t give up;-) So here I am, sitting on a Bachelor’s Degree, headed for a Master’s in Accounting.

To tell you the truth, I never imagined the path I am on. When I was in high school, I wanted to be a Marine Biologist working with whales and dolphins…..go figure. I did get to do an internship with Sea World (Camp counselor for K-12) so that was my adventure into that field. lol! My job was to take the kids to the shows around the park (while singing SpongeBob Squarepants and other chants on our way…LOUD I might add and people DID get out of our way. Who wouldn’t?). It was fun and I did get to see Shamu on a daily basis. The free pass to Discovery Cove was unforgettable for an animal lover like myself. Here is a picture of me kissing a dolphin:

So whoever you are and whatever your dream I say go for it. We get one chance at life. I choose to fit in any and everything I can if it is my desire. I feel complete, even though I ended up someplace totally different from where I assumed I would be. I’m not saying I had it easy. Lord knows I did not; but through it all I am happy with where I am today. Just like my statement for writing:

“The keys on your keyboard are the controls to your bulldozer. Take the keys and drive until you are finished. Everything else will kindly move out of your way or be forced to become a part of your path to success.”

(Dozer was also the name of one of the Walrus’ at Sea World.)

I always used the bulldozer as my metaphor to get through hard times. It can go through almost anything. The negativity gets run over and the positive feedback rides in the cab with me;-)
